Launch of Sector First Digital Marketing Coaching Programme

CIMSPA (the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) has collaborated with Bigwave Marketing to launch a digital marketing coaching programme geared to sport & physical activity.

The programme is part of the Digital Marketing Hub, a CIMSPA collaboration with Sport England to fill a gap in the digital skills of the sport and physical activity sector.

Do you have staff, partners or stakeholders who are digital marketing novices? Maybe they are at the beginning of their digital marketing journey or feel they know a little, and want to know more.

The programme includes:

  • Step by step guidance to develop digital marketing skills in the key pillars of digital marketing
  • A practical approach to putting ideas into action
  • 4x 1-hour group sessions delivered via Zoom
  • Peer-based discussions, sharing and problem solving
  • Access to resources and guides
  • Access to a trainer between sessions.

Bigwave will be running four cohorts with everyone in each cohort being from a similar professional setting to provide participants with an understanding team to bounce ideas off.

The coaching programme is first and foremost a close-knit community of peer-to-peer learning. The cohorts will be built of small groups, aiming to provide peer-to-peer support, in a friendly environment, guided by a digital marketing professional expert.

The cohorts are:

  • Self-employed personal trainers and coaches
  • Small businesses and charities
  • Sector bodies and partnerships
  • Club and community volunteers.

The sessions will be delivered by Simon Beer, Operations & Digital Director at Bigwave Marketing. Bigwave are a leading leisure & culture marketing agency, working with over 550 sport, leisure & cultural facilities in the UK. Simon has worked in the sector for nearly 20 years, building up an understanding of how to take digital marketing tools and methods and apply them within the sector. He was among the first alumni of the global digital diploma developed by Google (Google Squared) in 2014.

Commenting on the programme, Simon said:

“We are delighted to be collaborating with CIMPSA to grow digital skills in the sector. Digital marketing offers so many affordable ways to engage people into sport and physical activity, we have seen how it can completely change a business or grow an organisation”.

Simon has presented at countless sector events on digital marketing and has helped Bigwave achieve several digital milestones, including the launch of the first Trust operator app in the UK, the first agency in the Southwest to achieve Google Partner status, and gaining European Search Award status in 2020.

Ollie Bell, CIMSPA Commercial Director said:

“Bigwave Marketing are recognised as a leading marketing agency in the sport & physical activity sector. Combining a breadth of digital marketing knowledge with an in-depth understanding of how this translates across to the sector, the agency made the ideal partner to structure and deliver our coaching programme.

From feedback taken across our unique programme of digital marketing hub webinars, the webinar that received the highest quality score was delivered by Bigwave’s Operations & Digital Director, Simon Beer. We wanted to take the delivery style and guidance delivered in that session and wrap it into something that provided a mentoring approach. Combined with peer networking we feel we have developed a programme that will nurture and expand participants use of digital marketing, helping them to engage more people into their sport, activity or business.”

The coaching programme is recommended for beginners and novices. Those wanting more out of digital marketing are also welcome to join.
