Elevating the Bar & Café Experience at Exeter Airport

Bigwave partnered with LED Community Leisure to redesign the bars and cafés at Exeter Airport. The brief focused on creating stylish, welcoming spaces that enhance the customer experience, offering a blend of comfort, quality, and efficiency for travelers.

The Existing Space

The existing café at Exeter Airport feels outdated and uninviting, with a dull colour scheme, cluttered layout, and worn furnishings. The signage and branding lack a modern appeal, while the space appears poorly lit and uninspiring.

The Brand

Coastline is a fresh and modern brand inspired by the tranquility and vibrancy of the seaside. Featuring a clean, contemporary logo and a soothing color palette of blues, whites, and neutral tones, it evokes a sense of relaxation and coastal charm. The branding extends seamlessly across menus, staff uniforms, and signage, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. Designed to enhance the café experience, Coastline offers a stylish and refreshing space for travelers to unwind.

The Final Result

The redesigned Coastline café brings a fresh, modern feel to Exeter Airport. A vibrant blue palette, sleek finishes, and stylish signage create a welcoming atmosphere. Thoughtful lighting, curated displays, and an improved layout enhance comfort and efficiency, offering travelers a seamless and relaxing experience.

The Existing Space

The next space had a very similar feel to the first, with the same characteristics of feeling outdated and uninviting. Even with orange in the colour scheme, it felt very dark, with worn furnishings.

The Brand

Cove is a refined extension of the Coastline brand, designed to suit a more compact space while maintaining the same fresh and modern aesthetic. Retaining the tranquil blues, whites, and neutral tones, as well as the signature icon, Cove delivers the same sense of relaxation and coastal charm in a more intimate setting. With a clean, contemporary identity that aligns seamlessly with Coastline, this smaller concept ensures a cohesive brand experience, offering a stylish and inviting retreat for travelers in a more streamlined footprint.

The Final Result

The redesigned Cove café brings the same fresh, modern feel to a more compact space at Exeter Airport. Featuring a vibrant blue palette, sleek finishes, and stylish signage, it creates a welcoming and cohesive brand experience. Thoughtful lighting, curated displays, and a smart, space-efficient layout ensure comfort and convenience, offering travelers a seamless and relaxing stop within a smaller footprint.

The Existing Space

This space had a similar feel to the previous one—outdated and uninviting, despite efforts to incorporate warmth into the design. The dark furnishings and worn materials made the area feel tired rather than welcoming. Given its location in Exeter, Devon, there was a clear desire for a refreshed brand identity that better reflected the region’s character. Additionally, the space itself was much larger, providing ample room for customers to sit and enjoy their time. However, the layout and styling didn’t make the most of this potential, leaving it feeling underutilised.

The Brand

Moorland Kitchen was created to bring a fresh, regionally inspired identity to the space, drawing influence from the natural beauty of Devon’s moorlands. The brand’s colour palette of sage green and white evokes a sense of tranquillity and openness, creating a more inviting and contemporary atmosphere. Its logo features a minimalistic hill and mountain graphic, reinforcing the connection to the surrounding landscape. The aim was to move away from the previous dated aesthetic and instead introduce a clean, modern feel that aligns with the area’s character while enhancing the overall customer experience.

The Final Result

The seating area at Moorland Kitchen blends comfort and openness, with a mix of modern furniture and natural wood accents. The layout fosters both intimate and social settings, while large windows bring in natural light, enhancing the airy, inviting atmosphere. Every detail is designed to create a warm, welcoming space that connects guests to the surrounding moorlands.

The Existing Space

The original design of the bar was dated and lacked character, offering a bland and uninspiring space for travellers. The refurbishment has completely transformed the atmosphere, bringing in a modern, inviting vibe that encourages guests to linger and enjoy their time at the airport.

The Brand

The TOR logo reflects the natural beauty of its surroundings, with its dark sage green colour evoking the tranquil landscape. This thoughtful design captures the essence of the space—inviting, grounded in nature, and connected to the local environment.

The Final Result

TOR at Exeter Airport offers a refreshing escape with its inviting atmosphere and unique design, inspired by the lush surroundings. The vibrant green tones in the branding draw on the natural beauty of local landmarks, creating a space where travellers can unwind and enjoy a moment of relaxation. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a quick drink or settle in for a while, TOR is the perfect place to spend time before your journey.
