7 FREE activities to do over the summer holidays:
Haldon Forest has a huge range of outdoor activity facilities including; walking trails, bike trails, horse riding paths, orienteering, woodland adventure club and more! There are a variety of walks to be chosen from, e.g. Discovery trail – Easy, with fun features for children to the Tree trail – Hard, the more demanding of the trails.
The cycle paths also vary in difficulty, ranging from easy – which is a fun trail for the children, to Severe – the more technically demanding trail for the more experienced. As there is so much to choose from at Haldon Forest, it is a very easy day (or two) out of the house.
The Exe trail runs alongside the Exe Estuary from Exmouth towards Exeter and through many picturesque villages. It is a fantastic, easy, flat trail suitable for everyone, with stops along the way. The Exe trail is a great way to spend your time off whilst looking after the kids, to get out of the house and to have fun!
EXETER QUAY:
Along Exeter quay exciting events that take place, walking and cycling routes, water sport activities and plenty of pubs and restaurants waiting for you after a busy day. It’s a fantastic part of Exeter for children to enjoy the weather and for an easy trail. With the easy walks and cycle paths, it’s suitable for all ages and abilities. And not to forget, the paths are FREE, so be prepared to cycle and walk till the sun goes down!
BEACH DAYS:
What is better than a summers day at the beach? You’ve got the sand, sea, sun and a great selection of places to visit. In Devon the best beaches consist of Putsborough Sands, Woolacombe and South Sands beach. With rock pooling, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, diving and body boarding being only some of the activities available at these beaches, there is too much to do in just one day!
LIBRARY:
Libraries aren’t only full of books; they also have many activities to entertain younger children that are FREE! Many people are unaware that libraries hold concerts, author readings, lectures and book clubs. Be sure to visit your local library for many free and easy days out. Also when on your holiday from work, a quiet day is always needed, your kids will have fun and so can you.
LOCAL PARKS:
An easy way to entertain kids for the whole day is to take them to the park. Meet up with friends, take a picnic and ball games. Rounders, cricket and football are always good games to get everyone active and to get a little competitive. The park is a fantastic way to meet up with friends, enjoy the weather and to occupy the kids without having an expense to pay!
DOG WALKS:
Entertain the children (and the dogs) by adventuring down to a local river or woods for a day. Be prepared for the kids to get muddy and wet, but also to have a good day away from home. Create games which will tire them out and not to forget, a very inexpensive way of making the most of the great outdoors!
