As 2015 is well and truly behind us, we thought that it would be the perfect time to say goodbye to the old Bigwave site. We’ve upgraded and thought we would write a blog post on the importance of your website design.
Having an impressive website design that portrays your brand is one of the fundamental factors in recruiting and retaining your customers. It is important to have a simple yet effective website that is clearly navigational to the user and isn’t cluttered. As well as the creative design elements of a website, it is also important to take into account User Experience and User Interface.
User Experience (UX)
This is pretty self-explanatory, it’s the experience of the user when navigating around the website, if your website is confusing then the user could quickly become confused which would hinder the chances of them returning. Every user on your website has an objective, whether this be just to browse or to buy your service. It is a critical factor in securing a successful website, as if the user cannot complete their objectives then they will merely leave the website with the possibility of not returning. Another factor in the user’s experience on your website is how easy is it for them to complete simple tasks? For example, on the Bigwave site, if the user is looking for a quote, then there is a quick quote form on the main page for user to navigate to.
If your website uses loads of graphics which looks athletically pleasing this is great creatively, but you have to remember that this will increase the loading time of the website. If your website takes more time to load, this will increase the chance of your users leaving the site.
User Interface
This is concerned with how easy you can make the website do what you want to do, this would include windows, icons and pop-up menus. It also includes the positioning of elements in the place where the user expects them. For example, contact in the top right hand side of the website, social media links at the bottom of the website.
It’s very important to match your website with your branding, this includes colours, logo and font, this way, when the user enters your website, they will recognise the brand and will therefore continue on the site. By matching your website to your branding, this will increase your brand equity as you’re keeping the brand consistent throughout the different platforms and will increase trust between the user and your company.
