A challenge we gladly accepted.

Following the impact of Coronavirus on the leisure industry, we launched a new Workout at Home initiative to get the nation healthy and have made it available, for free, to any UK leisure operator.

When the doors to leisure facilities closed, we looked for ways to help our 550+ leisure facility clients engage with their membership base and keep them physically active.

As a leading marketing agency in Leisure we are deeply connected to the sector, its operators, suppliers and the people that make it so great. It was important for us to do something that supported and contributed to the sector during this time of uncertainty. Our company mission statement is to ‘Make a Difference’ and we couldn’t think of anything better than helping operators across the UK to engage with their members and keep them physically active.

Led by our Creative & Client Services Director, Lee Potter, we came up a digital workout tool called ‘[email protected]’. The web-based app was designed and built by our creative and web development teams and is accessible through any internet browser on mobile, tablet or desktop.

About the tool

The tool provides members with a way to create easy to follow workouts, selecting from four categories; Cardio, Strength, Body and Mind; and offering over 45 workouts. For those that can’t decide on a workout plan, there’s even a random workout function to automatically build a bespoke plan! Once the member hits a start button the timer counts down and guides them from one exercise to the next. The workouts are quiet so can be completed in peace without disturbing neighbours/flatmates. Another benefit is that they can be completed anywhere and in any sized home.

Growing support

Impressed with the concept, Gloucester based not for profit charity, Aspire Sports & Cultural Trust, (one of our clients), offered the support of their health and fitness team who road tested and vetted all the exercises.

With positive feedback from other clients and support from Community Leisure UK (the organisation that represents Leisure & Cultural Trusts in the UK) to offer the portal out to its members, we made the decision to hand the portal over to the sector and make it available to any operator across the UK, for free.

“The tool is proving to be an effective and important part of our customer retention and staff engagement strategy. At a time when all our leisure facilities are closed the tone of our customer communications has moved from selling to ‘serving’. And what better way to support our customers and the wider community by providing a free resource that supports physical activity in the home. We have been so impressed with this tool and the uptake that I am considering keeping it on as a member benefit when we reopen.”

Further support

Employing over 45 specialist staff, we provide innovative and cost-effective marketing, design and digital services to the leisure sector and are a key partner and sponsor to a number of industry organisations. Innovation and support has always been at the heart of our agency since it began in 2007 and saw us launch the first mobile app into the UK Leisure Trust market.

If your organisation needs marketing support at this time, then we can provide a range of full services including the delivery of online training, acting as remote/on-call marketing teams for leisure operators that have had to furlough marketing staff and can prepare and execute marketing plans for those operators that want to start planning for the reopen and hopeful bounce back of memberships and activity programme take-up. Please contact Tom Gozna via email.
